Southern Leopard Frog
The nocturnal chorus of the Grassrivers.
Field Notes
AMBIENCE
Heard more often than seen. Active at night.
While terrifying predators roam the swamps, the Southern Leopard Frog provides the soundtrack. [Image of Southern Leopard Frog] In the dense humidity of the Grassrivers, these amphibians create the signature "night noise" of Leonida.
They serve a critical role in the food chain. You will often see herons striking into the mud or snakes coiling near water edges—they are hunting these frogs. For the player, they are "Micro-Fauna," reacting to footsteps by splashing into the safety of deep water.
